Countdown to NaNoWriMo

Have you nanowrimo-picwritten 50,000 words within a month? If the answer is no, then now’s your chance with National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). It’s a writing event that spans the globe and focuses writers on accomplishing their goal of writing a book. The website allows you to track your progress, get pep talks and support, and even meet other authors online or in person. The event begins November 1,  and ends November 30, but you can start now by outlining your story and connecting with writing buddies.

Check out the Nano Prep Webinar below for other ideas on what to do to prepare.

If you are the competitive type, NaNoWriMo also offers  badges you can earn before and during the event, in the categories: participation badges, writing badges, and personal achievement badges. I’ve already earned 5 badges.

I heard about this event several years ago and finally decided to take part this year. If you join, feel free to add me as a writing buddy. #NaNoWriMo

Peace, love, and harmony,

img_6626-1

Tonight was the launch of HAWAII Way Publishing. The event consisted of food, book signing, sales, awards, and prizes. I had the pleasure of interviewing each of the authors during the event. One such author is Chase Burch, a college student, cancer survivor and children’s book author. The interview below occurred before the event.

Interview with Chase Burch, author of Vella, Novella The Book that Talks Back

When did you begin writing and why?

I began writing when I was about 10 or 11. I always loved reading, writing and telling stories, so I began writing my own.

What is your book about?

Vella, Novella The Book that Talks Back is unique because the main character is the book and it’s talking to the reader and explaining the life of books.

For which age group is your book intended?

Vella, Novella The Book that Talks Back is intended for ages 8 and up. It’s a great book to read to kids, enjoy for yourself, or share with others.

What was your inspiration for the book?

The idea for this book actually began when my younger brother had a project in which he sarcastically titled his packet: A Book. The idea just sort of sprung from there.

How long did it take you to complete?

Vella, Novella took about a year and a half to complete.

I know you have a book launch coming up as well, so tell me about it.

I am so excited to be apart of this book launch. We have such amazing authors with some fantastic books coming out. It’s all very exciting.

Where can one purchase your book?

It is coming very soon to Amazon and Kindle.

What else would you like people to know about you and/or your book?

I recently celebrated my 20th birthday. I am currently a junior at DSU and am majoring in Communications & Digital Film. I love books, movies, board games, roller coasters, fandoms, and everything Disney. I will be donating a percentage of my profits toward childhood cancer charities.

When did you begin writing and why?

I began writing when I was about 10 years old. I was a voracious reader and loved a good mystery thanks to the prodding from my mother. She was an English Major so English was always corrected 🙂

What is your book about?

My book is about recovery. It is divided into chapters with memoirs about different gifts that I learned in life from my experiences. These stories each have a point directed to coming back from substance abuse.

For which age group is your book intended?

This book is intended for the addict who suffers and the family member who is concerned for the welfare of their loved one. It is intended for the addict to gain some tools to look forward in life and transition into a better life.

What was your inspiration for the book?

I was addicted to meth for 22 years and survived a 17 year long marriage filled with domestic violence and drug abuse. I created a new life and new miracles and wish to share that journey with others, offering them hope.

How long did it take you to complete?

This book actually took me 2 years to complete. It is a compilation of work that I had been doing over many years in sobriety.

I know you have a book launch coming up as well, so tell me about it.

So exciting! This book launch will be held at Cafe 210 on September 28th, from 6pm to 9pm in Visalia, California. My publisher, Hawaii Way Publishers is an amazing company that I am so honored to be a part of. There will be other amazing authors at the same launch of whom I am very excited to be connected with. It will be especially amazing because I will get to have my mother attend. We just lost my dad two weeks ago, and I am honored to have her participate in an achievement such as this.

Where can one purchase your book?

On Amazon under books by Pattie Godfrey-Sadler.

What else would you like people to know about you and/or your book?

I am passionate about causes for women who are making a transition to change their lives. I am involved in international organizations that revolve around human trafficking and domestic abuse.  I am a life coach also working in a contract for the military specializing in methods to cope with PTSD.  This is just the beginning.  My next book will be out by next spring and will be the story of my life and the amazing miracles that came about because I made a decision to move another direction.

Book Launch L.R. Johnson

The California Central Valley is getting a new publishing house. HAWAII Way Publishing  is set to launch this Wednesday, September 28, from 6PM to 9PM at 210 Cafe in Visalia (210 W. Center Ave). I had the opportunity to interview several authors of the publishing house that will be launching their books at this event. For the next few days leading up to the event and the day after the event you can find the interviews here on my site.

Interview with L.R. Johnson, author of Collide

When did you begin writing and why?

I first started writing when I was in high school. I still can remember the story…and maybe someday I will finish it. The process was extremely frustrating because I was writing it on my grandma’s Word processor, which is just a fancy typewriter with a black screen with green lettering. There was no spellcheck and you had to wait for the paper to print before you could continue writing. I am a horrible speller and after constantly asking people how to spell several words I gave up and just told myself I was too dumb to be a writer. Life happened, I got married, had children, and forgot all about it until one night I had a dream I couldn’t forget. I decided to get up and start writing it down. Wow, what a difference a miracle happened…there was spellcheck. I finally had a place where I could put my imagination…on paper.

What is your book about?

This book is a Paranormal Romance. About a girl who is stuck in a lonely rut after the sudden death of her father. As she begins having strange and sinister experiences she meets Donovan. He is tall, dark, good-looking, strangely familiar – and yet terrifying. He has an unyielding gravitating pull on her that she has no desire to break free from. He sets her free from her stagnant life and unlocks her memories forcing her to fight for everything she love.

For which age group is your book intended?

New Young Adult and Adult – ages 15 and up.

What was your inspiration for the book?

A dream I had one night. I just dreamed one small portion of it and the rest of the story unveiled itself as I was writing it.

How long did it take you to complete?

To write it, about 4 months. Editing, now that is a whole different story…and a long one. The short version is, I began editing it years ago then stresses in life happened and I tucked it away, basically giving up. Recently I decided to pull it out again and gave it a complete overhaul. And after help from my editor “the Amazing” Shawndra it is now complete.

I know you have a book launch coming up as well, so tell me about it.

My book launch is this Wed. Sept. 28th at 210 Café on Center street in Visalia Ca. It will be from 6-9PM and there will be music, fun, games, readings, and an interview portion. I am very excited! Also the next day I will be in San Luis Obispo for their Central Coast Book Fair and signing books at their famous farmers market. You can come by both at the launch party in Visalia or visit me Thursday night at mission plaza in S.L.O.

Where can one purchase your book?

You can purchase them on Amazon, Barnes and Noble’s website or you can go to my website www.lrjohnsonauthor.com where you will be linked to my books – COLLIDE and NEVER FOREVER. I will also have two more books coming out next year. An Innocent Kiss and the second book in the COLLIDE series Chrysalis.

What else would you like people to know about you and/or your book?

I am just a normal wife, mom, daughter, and sister who decided to not let anyone decide my future for me. If you work hard, have faith and never give up, doing the best you can, things will work out. Use you imagination and reach for the stars because you are closer to the heavens than you realize.

Writing Projects

I am bouncing between writing projects as the ideas flow, but I don’t think this is a good way to actually finish books. I can’t decide which story to focus on completing first, because I am emotionally invested in each (I love my characters and their worlds). I need your help deciding which project to complete next. Please check out the details regarding each book by clicking the Projects tab on my website. Then complete the following poll by noon, September 24, 2016. I greatly appreciate your help!

Love, Peace, & Harmony,

Christina

Book Launch – The Elixir of Freedom

Around 3 years ago I incorporated Transcendental Meditation (TM) into my life. This was also the time that I met Michael Neer, a fellow TM practitioner and TM teacher. Michael recently published The Elixir of Freedom and has an upcoming book launch. He was gracious enough to allow me to ask him a few questions to share on my blog.

Elixir of Freedom
What is your book about?

It takes you on a journey with the heroes, 21-year-old Ravi and Verda, to discover the elixir at the Heart of the Sun as told in the ancient legends of Raam. They use the elixir to attain freedom from doubt, narrow thinking, fear, captivity, and even time itself, and live their own true purpose.  It is a journey of awakening that will stir the heart and soul. It’s a love story for nature and life itself.  It is a mythic tale that suggests a path to real freedom for all of us, giving a vision of a better tomorrow.

For which age group is your book intended?

The book – and the planned 6-book series called The Light Finder Legends – is similar to The Chronicles of Narnia, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Alchemist. Thus, it’s for young adults to all adults!

What was your inspiration for the book?

I was giving a talk on the qualities of pure consciousness – the silent level of life which is the source of creativity. I noted how there are six main qualities – freedom, bliss, health, knowledge, peace, and fortune. Then I realized that these concepts seem so abstract that making them real through a story would help people appreciate the power they have within them. So, I wrote six rough drafts in 2014 to convince myself I had some good plots and characters, and now in 2016 I have fine-tuned the first book and published it.

How long did it take you to complete?

As I mentioned, I wrote the rough draft – about 20,000 words. Then it took me about six months to polish it into the current 49,000-word novel.

Thanks for sharing. I know you have a book launch coming up as well, so tell me about it.

Well, we are trying to make it an Amazon bestseller. So we are promoting it widely through all social media during the week of Aug. 15 to Aug. 19 with the official launch day on Aug. 17.  The real goal is to reach as many people as possible with the message of freedom, living by intuition, tuning into nature,  and defeating darkness with light.

I have done several book signings in Fresno and in Berkeley. But this launch will be strictly online – via email, twitter, and facebook. On the author website and some of the online promotions, readers will get to see the  new Video Trailer for the book, and can get the first two chapters free. We have had three 5-star reviews and two 4-star reviews. One reviewer said she read the first chapter and couldn’t put it down!

Where can one purchase your book?

You can find the book (Kindle or paperback) on Amazon, or at my author website at www.MRNeer.com
